On Repeat | ‘Kiss and Disappear’ by Vincent Eco

Today’s song on repeat is ‘Kiss and Disappear’ by Vincent Eco.

A bit of homegrown Cebuano music for yah produced by Cattski Espina, brought to the world by 22 Tango Records.

Decided to revisit coz it’s been awhile since I heard Vincent Eco play (coz I’ve been a loser).

A tinge of nostalgia, a touch of longing, and a sprinkle of hope. A celebration. A track worth putting on loop anytime you want to feel good.

Whenever I hear this, I am reminded of long sunset drives through the beach coasts of Cebu with people who matter most.

This album was one of the best parts of 2018. One of the best parts of Cebuano music.

In the end it’s me, it’s me and you.

On Repeat | ‘Jolene’ by Ray LaMontagne

Today’s song on repeat is ‘Jolene’ by Ray LaMontagne.

I haven’t listened to this song in awhile but, for some reason, it just started playing in my head. I haven’t stopped humming and singing this all weekend long.

A bit of nostalgia and heartache.

A picture of you
Holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans

On Repeat | ‘Can I Begin Again’ by Ciaran Lavery

Today’s song on repeat is ‘Can I Begin Again’ by Ciaran Lavery.

You know when you need to hear something and the world decides to provide everything you need to hear by means of a song? And you hear it just when you need to hear it? And in that moment, you feel like a part of you has been saved by the music?

This is one of those songs.

I need to please myself.
I’m settling in well.

Today’s song on repeat is ‘Ribs’ by Lorde.

An oldy but, man, is it a goody.

I always turn to this song when the need to feel good arises.

This song transports me to some place where I feel like I can fly through my streets at night and just feel the wind blowing through my hair. Just float. Just fly away. Freely.

Laughing ’til our ribs get tough.

On Repeat | ‘Fine Line’ by Harry Styles

Today’s song On Repeat is ‘Fine Line’ by Harry Styles.

If I’m honest, this song has been on loop quite a lot since the album, Fine Line, was released last month. This was one of the songs I immediately latched onto and knew was I was going to obsess over on so many levels.

Styles has the ability to come up with lines that you don’t see coming until it hits you and before you know it, you’re feeling things you wouldn’t expect to feel. This song, however… This whole song… I didn’t see this coming. All the many magnificent layers of it. And I’m not over how brilliant it is.

I’m mad at but immensely grateful to Harry and his team (Mitch Rowland, David Campbell, Sammy Witte, Thomas Hull, Tyler Johnson and Kid Harpoon) for making such a beautiful and powerful piece of music and all the human emotions this song encapsulates in 6 minutes and 17 seconds.

Amidst the poetry, the musical composition, arrangement and production of this record, I think I figured out what it is about this song that I keep coming back to. It’s that one simple line. Simple, yet carries tremendous weight:

We’ll be alright.

A reminder that, amidst all the chaos, heartaches, quiet sufferings, internal battles with personal demons and deafening noise from the outside world, if you soldier on, you will find relief. A sense of freedom. It’ll be alright.

We’ll be alright.

On Repeat | ‘Tired As Fuck’ by The Staves

I like listening to songs on repeat. I like to put it on loop and just get lost in the world that the song has created and never disengaging. Putting songs on repeat is thing I also love doing especially if there’s something I need to let out of my system.

Today’s song is ‘Tired As Fuck’ by The Staves. Not the only track I listened to today but the one I kept coming back to.

A mood.

Tired of the outside world trying to break in and mess with what little peace I have worked so hard for.

A million and one thanks to The Staves for capturing all that this song captures.

Wish me luck.
